Plug-ins

Some documents and files on this site require plug-ins—software that must be downloaded and "plugged in" to a browser in order to view a document or play an audio or video clip. A few popular plug-ins are listed below:

Adobe Acrobat    and PDF Files

PDF stands for Portable Document Format and was created by Adobe Systems Incorporated. It is a way to save a document so it can be viewed and printed out in the way the author intended, regardless of whether you're on a Macintosh, a Windows PC or a Unix machine.

Adobe PDF files can be shared, viewed, and printed by anyone with free Adobe Reader software.

You will need Adobe Reader to view some documents on this site.

How can I view PDF documents?

To view PDF documents you will need a copy of Adobe Reader. You can download the latest Macintosh, Windows, and other versions of Adobe Reader by visiting the Adobe website.

Follow the instructions within the Adobe site to download the Reader version you need.

How do I install Adobe Reader on my computer?

Once you have downloaded a copy of Adobe Reader follow the easy instructions included with the software to install Acrobat Reader on your computer.

How Can I Open a PDF Document?

To open any PDF document within this website left-click on the document link. Where it is most appropriate for the document to be downloaded you will be given the option to save the PDF file to your hard-disk, otherwise the document will open automatically in your browser. When a document is downloaded and has been saved on the hard disk it can be opened by double-clicking it's icon. Saving the PDF to your hard disk makes it possible to open it at a later date without being online and allows more effective printing. When the PDF opens in a browser window it can be viewed, printed and saved if required.

Accesssible Documents

An accessible version of the Adobe Reader which contains support for screen readers is now available. For more information on accessibility and Adobe Reader, visit the access.adobe.com web site.
